What Is a Hybrid Water Heater?

It’s hard to imagine our lives without our water heater. After all, water helps us clean our dishes, wash our clothes and, perhaps most importantly, shower! But did you know that your electric water heater is the second biggest energy consumer in your home?  That’s why changing to a hybrid water heater can deliver all of the hot water you need, while saving you lots of money every year on those electric bills.

With a hybrid water heater, you can enjoy hot water without worrying about it running out. Learn how hybrid water heaters can improve your home’s comfort.

The Old Way of Heating Water

In the past, consumers had two options when it came to getting hot water for their home: tank and tankless water heaters:

Tank: Tank water heaters hold and heat between 40 to 80 gallons of water. Water enters through the top of the tank and is heated by two electric heating elements. The heating elements stay on even when water is not being used. This is to ensure that hot water is readily available, but in turn this uses a tremendous amount of energy.

Tankless: Unlike a tank water heater, tankless systems do not store hot water. Rather, they heat water on demand. These systems work by pushing the water through a system of tightly packed coils. Cylinders at the bottom of the tank heat these coils. When demand for water in the home is high, the coils must adjust flow speed of the water to keep up. This reduces the pressure of the water and causes its temperature to fluctuate.

Hybrid Water Heaters

A hybrid water heater uses advanced heat pump technology in combination with traditional electric elements, providing you with plenty of hot water at significantly reduced energy costs.  They come with electronic controls that make it simple to change the temperature or operating mode. Hybrid water heaters even include a vacation setting so you can easily let it know when you want it to shut down and start back up again.  Put all of this together and you will have a state of the art water heating system that will save you money every month on your electric bills.
